Halloween is by far my favorite holiday of the year. I enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas but there is something really fun to me about being anything you want to be for one night a year. Halloween also has a special memory for me because 2 years ago on Halloween Gunnar proposed to me. We even had a couples outfit going on that year and I think we are going to do another one this year. So I’m always trying to update my collection of Halloween recipes and cocktails, this year I wanted to put a modern twist on an old Tiki cocktail I came across in one of my cookbooks. I updated this 1934 cocktail to be quick easy and use some updated flavors that are more common in cocktails today. The Zombie originally surfaced during the Tiki craze and I think is the perfect last minute cocktail for your Halloween party!
Add crushed ice, 1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar, 1/2 ounce pineapple juice, 1 ounce passion fruit rum, 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice, 1 ounce spiced rum, and 1/2 ounce of Bacardi 151 to a shaker. Use the honey to lightly coat the rim of the glass and dip in a mixture of cinnamon sugar. Add ice to the glass and strain the shaker into it.
I’m just getting into the world of tiki drinks but these “old” style drinks aren’t exactly like the stuff you get at bars today. They are very strong and rely very little on the flavors of mixers like many drinks that I’ve made on here. However, if you are open to alternative flavor profiles you should definitely give this Simple Zombie Halloween Cocktail a try.
