It has been 3 weeks with my new Project Life plan. And I wanted to gather my thoughts on it since it is so different than what I’ve done in the past. Overall, I really love my new plan. But there are some cons that I need to evaluate and make a better plan for.
I love how quickly and easily I am able to work on pages. So far by Monday afternoon, the previous week has been printed, journaled and in the book. There was one week I went ahead on Sunday afternoon when I had some free time and started laying out the pages, and I wasn’t even at home. The flexibility is a huge plus to me. Before I would need to gather all the images to my computer and evaluate what I was going to use, lay it out in Photoshop to maximize printing space and then cut out each image, place them in the book and place the journaling/embellishments in before I was done.
Now, I do a lot of that in the app. I’ve also noticed that I’m being more mindful of journaling, even if it is just the activity we are doing in the picture. Which is great because it is an area I struggled in. I like that I can type out my journaling and edit it in case I’ve made a mistake unlike when I’ve written with a pen.
I really, really like that I’m now only printing 2 pages per week versus my 3 – 4 in the past. Part of this was due to the size of my album, 12 x 12 may not sound big but it is. Which brings me to another thing I like about my new album. I like the size 8 x 8 is a great size to hold and I can print out full-size pages with my home printer.
The last pro I want to mention is how easy it is to get additional kits on the app. Before, I stuck with one kit each year which really held a cohesive design throughout the year. This year I’ve found that I really like a hybrid approach. I’m using the week cards from one kit, and neutral embellishments with some pops of color from other kits. And when I find that I’ve got something specific in mind, a color or a particular style I can scroll through the list of available kits and purchase the one I need. Now on to my cons.
What I don’t like is mostly an internal mental shift. I’m not spending as much time with each image as I had before so I feel a tiny bit less connected with my spreads than I did before. I think that mostly is because I’m in the mode where I’m just printing and sliding into pockets. I do want and plan on incorporating stamps/embellishments after printing but I just haven’t done that yet.
Another thing that I feel is a con of my new plan is the size, again I think this is just because it is different than in the past. Also, it looks really tiny next to my 3 lumbering 12 x 12 albums. It feels different than before or what I expect when I go to work on it.
These cons are in no way a deal breaker for me. And truly are minor issues because I love how it is turning out so far. I did struggle with what my title page was going to look like this year. I’m not sure why but I just couldn’t come up with a plan that made me excited for 2016 but I got that figured out now and can’t wait to share it with you next week!
