After moving to a smaller place, you have struggles. Struggles to get rid of stuff, struggles to store the stuff you keep, and struggles to fit your house size furniture into a one bedroom apartment.
I’m really happy about the new adventure. But getting things put away and organized the way I wish it is taking some time. I finally have one little corner in our bedroom set up and I’m working slowly on the other areas.
This same dresser was in our bedroom at our home and in the last 6 months or so got a facelift with painted drawers. Here is what it looked like in our home and it has found a wonderful new spot in our apartment.
One thing I have learned since downsizing is that it is incredibly important to put things away as soon as you are finished. One thing left on the counter for later quickly becomes 5-6 things and then it gets worse from there. In our house we had different areas for work, eating, lounging and sleeping. In our apartment our work area is our eating area and our lounging area is our sleeping (at least until we decide on a couch). It was always easy to overlook clutter when you could move to a different room or have a different place that you kept clean solely for meals, now if I leave a stack of papers on the counter I have to move them to cook/work/eat, the list goes on and on. So I’ve been trying to get in the habit of taking care of things right away like when I take my jewelry off at night I put the earrings back on the holder whereas before I would leave them on my nightstand or landing strip in the kitchen and put the week’s worth of jewelry away on the weekend when I cleaned.
