I’ve seen these trees floating around pinterest for a while and has been something I wanted to try. I wasn’t sure this would work so we started with a few trees and a few colors but they turned out great, and I’m ready to grow our little forest!
First you need bottle brush trees. You can find these at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby or even online here. To strip the color from the trees I mixed up 2 parts hot water with 1 part bleach in a bucket and then dipped in the trees. This started working almost immediately and didn’t take long to strip the color completely.
After the color was stripped I rinsed all the trees with cool water to remove any remnant of the bleach. Even just stripped of color they are beautiful aren’t they? Maybe I’ll have to make a white forest as well.
I then used a blue and green dye to color the white trees. I left them in for varying amount of times and in fact I think the trees with the lighter colors are my favorite. But play around with it until you get colors that you like.
I rinsed them again with cool water and left them on a paper towel to dry.
I love how they turned out and am looking forward to getting more colors and more trees to fill the length of my table.
